Whether you’re an experienced fisherman or fancy trying fishing in Yorkshire for the first time, Nidderdale AONB provides a host of fantastic opportunities for fishing, in some of the most beautiful, peaceful locations in the Yorkshire Dales.
In the Washburn Valley Fewston, Swinsty and Thruscross reservoirs offer exceptionally high quality fly and coarse fishing in some of Yorkshire’s most stunning rural settings. These fishing sites are all easily accessible from the Yorkshire Dales, Harrogate, Otley and Leeds. Fewston is stocked with rainbow trout and Swinsty is available for both fly fishing and coarse fishing. Thruscross reservoir further North in Nidderdale AONB, in a wilder remote setting, provides 140 acres of water as a superb wild brown trout (catch and return) fly fishery. See the Yorkshire Water website for more information about opening times and prices
Continue into the Yorkshire Dales and Upper Nidderdale and the River Nidd has good fly fishing for both brown trout and grayling. Scar House reservoir provides fly fishing for wild brown trout. Contact Nidderdale Angling Club for more information.
“Fishing is much more than fish. It is the great occasion when we may return to the fine simplicity of our forefathers." So says Herbet Hoover (www.brainyquote.com), and we coudn’t agree more!
