Celebrity rambler Janet Street-Porter will help launch this year's 10th Otley Walking Festival.

Ms Street-Porter, a high-profile media personality, will also be launching The Six Dales Trail a new long-distance walk from Otley to Middleham from outside the Civic Centre at 9am on Saturday, June 26.

The 39-mile trail has been produced by Otley's Walkers are Welcome group, which has also made an illustrated guidebook supported by Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) for it.

The trail takes its name from the dales that are traversed as walkers make their way northwards from Otley across the AONB to Middleham, taking in Wharfedale, Washburndale, Nidderdale, Colsterdale, Coverdale and Wensleydale.

A keen walker and Nidderdale resident, Ms Street-Porter was president of the Ramblers' Association for two years in the 1990s.
