A new project, funded by the Yorkshire Dales LEADER Programme, is about to get underway in the Nidderdale AONB and Yorkshire Dales National Park, to help local communities become more sustainable.

Sustainability for Yorkshire Ltd (S4Y) has teamed up with the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and they will use local expertise to empower communities to reduce their carbon emissions and save money on their fuel bills.

Five enthusiastic communities that wish to become more sustainable will be offered free practical help, advice and support to help reduce their carbon footprint. A Project Co-ordinator has been appointed to work closeley with each community for up to two years. The Co-ordinator will help each community to assess their carbon emmissions as a baseline, create an action plan to help deliver carbon savings and then implement the plan through community led activity.

There are a number of benefits for the community and these include:
If you would like to register an interest in the project for your community or would just like more information please contact Project Co-ordinator Jill Armstrong on 01969 652391 or email jill.armstrong@est-nyh.org.uk An expression of interest form will be sent to you and the deadline for applications is noon on Thursday 15th July 2010.
