Managing the AONB

The AONB does not have wide ranging statutory powers to enforce its primary objective of conserving and enhancing natural beauty.

The Joint Advisory Committee and the AONB team work on behalf of those who live and work in the AONB, visitors and the wider community to ensure that the environment of the AONB is protected, and to ensure that the AONB continues to evolve in a sustainable way in the future. We rely on goodwill and partnerships with others to make progress.

The Committee, team and volunteers carry out their work by:

advising and influencing the actions of local authorities, government agencies and other organisations to protect the internationally important landscape of the AONB
promoting awareness and understanding of AONB purposes across the community
developing conservation projects with partner organisations
awarding grants for conservation projects
providing opportunities for volunteers
