Emma aged 12 from near Harrogate says "to learn about wildlife because we don't really live in the countryside"
Rachel, Young Ranger Leader says "we all enjoy getting out and about in the countryside and caring for it.  The Young Rangers have been doing John Muir Awards and if they come regularly the get a special Young Ranger T-shirt!".

An example of a Young Rangers Day:

Everyone arrives at Fountains Abbey Visitor Centre at 9.30am and puts on their wellies. Today is a 'discovery' day for the John Muir Awards.  People chat and catch up as the leaders get themselves organised for the biodiversity scavenger hunt.  Then we all head off into the wonderful deer park and search for the items on the sheet.  If we find at least 10 items we will get a biodiversity goody bag with information on bats, birds and making a pond, a packet of seed to grow and a chocolate frog.  Everyone has a great time searching for fungi, looking out for birds and identifying trees on a lovely sunny day.  In fact everyone found over twenty five different things on the sheet!
