Source to City Project

Between 1875 and 1966 eleven reservoirs in Nidderdale AONB were constructed. They are now a key landscape feature and contribute to the rich heritage of the area.

The 'Source to City Project' has been developed to celebrate, raise awareness, increase and widen participation in heritage of reservoirs in Nidderdale AONB.  Funded through the Heritage Lottery, the project over a three year period will:

- Connect rural communities at the 'source' to urban communities in the cities of Leeds and Bradford that the reservoirs feed. This will be achieved through information and exchange visits.

- Develop an events programme including walks and talks to raise awareness and understanding of reservoir heritage.

- Provide rural and urban schools with educational materials focusing on reservoir heritage.

- Widen access to reservoir heritage through improved information provision.

- Create an educational and entertaining website providing a wide range of information, video clips, walks, historical documents, photographs and events.
