Moorland Safari to Simon's Seat
Friday 5th, 4pm - 9pm
Enjoy an evening of adventure with Paul Wilby, Head Gamekeeper at Bolton Abbey Estate, as you travel by landrover across beautiful moorland and up onto Simons Seat to enjoy spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. You will also find out more about this valuable landscape, its management and some of the flora and fauna it supports. The evening will close with a moorland supper to which all participants will be asked to contribute. Event includes some travel in landrovers over bumpy moorland tracks and a 1.5 mile (2.5km) walk to the summit of Simons Seat. Bioblitz
Saturday 6th
Through a packed programme of self-guided and guided activities, undertaken over 24 hours, participants will get hands on searching for local wildlife and will contribute to a genuine scientific survey. A team of scientists, students and naturalists will be on hand to help visitors find, identify and record wildlife sightings all of which will add to the final species tally for the site. Mining Heritage Walk
Saturday 13th, 10am - 1pm
Explore the areas superb lead mining heritage with Greenhow Local History Club. View some old plans of the mines before walking down to the Sunside Mines and looking at the entrances of Gillfield, Cockhill and Jack Ass, and at the surface remains of the smelt mills.
