this truly magnificent tour of one of the wonders of Nidderdale.
Find out about the village that once stood and the amazing feats of
engineering that took place. A moderate 4.5-mile walk
on a mixture of tarmac roads, rough tracks and moorland paths with
stiles, steps and couple of steep climbs. Dogs
welcome.

| Introduction to Understanding Maps for Walking

Join Open Access Volunteer Peter Moretti for this basic
introduction to map reading. The event will consist of an indoor
session followed by a short walk to put into practice what you have
learned. Suitable for age 8+ (approx).

| Jervaulx Abbey to Thornton Steward

Open Access Volunteer Hilary Cunningham-Atkins will lead this
wonderful 7.5mile/12km walk that starts and finishes
at the magnificent ruins of Jervaulx Abbey. The walk goes
through stunning parkland, over lush pasture fields and through the
historic village of Thornton Steward. You'll pass the impressive
Danby Hall and cross the River Ure over two historic
bridges.

| The Geology of Greenhow

Explore the Greenhow area with local geologist Adrian Kidd.
Learn about Toft Gate Lime Kiln, Toft Gate Quarry, Cockhill lead
mines, Greenhow and Coldstone Quarries, whilst enjoying stunning
views. The walk involves some steep ascents and descents,
rough, boggy ground and fields containing livestock.
