A walk through the History of Gouthwaite Lodge Farm
Thursday 9th September
2pm-4pm

The route will take in stunning views around Gouthwaite reservoir, a selection of interesting historic farm buildings, and historic features from a sheep washing fold to prehistoric hut circles. There will also be an opportunity to look at historic maps and records, and see the changes brought about by the reservoir. By kind permission of Mr John Rayner. The walk is approximately three miles in length and it is steep in places.
Location: Near Gouthwaite Reservoir, Pateley Bridge. Further information on the meeting point and car parking will be provided on booking.
Cost: Free

* warm, layered clothing

Stroll in Swinton Park
Friday 10th September
10am-12pm (approx)
Join a guided walk to explore Swinton Park - the landscape park, pleasure grounds and gardens to Swinton Castle. The fascinating garden has seen many phases of development from the earliest design in 1699, to the landscaped park of the later 18th century, with later alterations. The park is 2* listed of national importance retaining many historic features of interest including lakes, bridges and follies. The walk will last up to two hours.
Location: Swinton Park, Masham, Ripon, HG4 4JH.

Witch of the Woods
Saturday 11th September
10am-3pm

Take a walk from the village of Galphay to this wonderful 400 year old cottage, set in a beautiful wooded landscape between Fountains Abbey and Hackfall. The circular walk from the Galphay Inn to the cottage is approximately four miles. Visitors are welcome to make their own way, or join in one of the two guided walks from the Galphay Inn - departing at 10am and 1.30pm. Alternatively parking is available at the entrance to Galphay Woods Farm for a shorter walk.

Why not also visit other sites nearby, where Heritage Open Days events are taking place, including the spectacular landscape garden at Hackfall with the LandmarkTrust's Ruin, to the north, and the National Trust's Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal to the south.

Hackfall Wood Celebration Weekend - Part of Heritage Open Days 2010
Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th September
Explore Hackfall Wood on this special weekend and take part in free guided walks at 11am and 2pm. A minibus shuttle service will be available from Masham to Hackfall. Further details will be available from www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/wood/hackfall.

Nidderdale Museum
Sunday 12th September

This large and lively collection illustrating all aspects of Dales life in the past is throwing it's doors open for free on Sunday 12 September as part of Heritage Open Days. The 11 rooms of exhibitions, housed in the former workhouse, contains wonderful collections of photographs, costumes, and artefacts to give you a real insight into life in Nidderdale throughout history.

Cost: Free entry on Sunday 12th September (to coincide with Heritage Open days). Standard admission charges are: adults £2, concessions £1, accompanied children free.

Nidderdale Show
Monday 20th September
Nidderdale Show, held in the heart of the AONB in the picturesque town of Pateley Bridge, is one of the county's foremost agricultural shows. It traditionally marks the end of the agricultural show season and provides something for all the family. Come along and learn more about the AONB at our stand.

Pateley Bridge Walking Festival
Thursday 23rd September to Sunday 26th September
The festival will offer several different walks each day, led by experienced guides keen to share their knowledge of and affection for Nidderdale. The walks will cater for a wide range of interests and will vary in length and difficulty, ensuring there is something for people of all ages and fitness levels.
 
Evening events are also planned for those wishing to make the most of their time in Nidderdale and these include a talk from Mark Reid, author of the award-winning "Inn Way" series of walk books, and a ceilidh with local folk band "The Roosters".

Masham Sheep Fair
Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th September
Masham has a long history of large sheep sales and this popular Sheep Fair commemorates these times, whist raising much money for charity, and filling the town with sheepy fun and entertainment. Judging, events, exhibitions - everything and anything to do with sheep! Come along and learn more about the AONB at our stand.
