Harrogate District Consults on Conservation
Areas
25 April 2008
People with an interest in the natural and built heritage
are helping Harrogate Borough Council as it undertakes a four year
review of all 52 Conservation Areas in the district.
The Council has already completed and approved conservation
area reviews for Glasshouses and Whixley and now it is ready to
consult on appraisals for:
- Bishop Monkton
- Goldsborough
- Kirk Deighton
- Knaresborough
- Masham
- Pateley Bridge
- Ramsgill
- Roecliffe
- Spofforth
Dave Allenby, Chief Planner (Forward Planning) says the
Council is keen to hear from everyone, either those who live in one
of the settlements concerned or those who know them and want to see
their unique qualities protected. He added:
"Their designation as a Conservation Area provides
more protection against 'insensitive' development or
'redevelopment'.
"Staff from the Council's Planning Team have been holding
local workshops to explain why the appraisals are taking place and
how local residents and businesses can get
involved. Together with local people we have
been exploring what elements contribute to the reason for
Conservation Area designation and what makes each area unique and
how they can be improved."
Copies are also available at the Council Offices in Harrogate,
Knaresborough and Ripon and all local and mobile libraries.
Comments will be taken until 6 June 2008. After
that, amendments will be made based on the views received and the
final version of the appraisals will be approved by the Council as
a basis for making development control decisions and managing
change within each conservation area.
Other draft appraisals for Aldborough, Boroughbridge,
Follifoot, Green Hammerton, Hampsthwaite, Kirk Hammerton, Little
Ouseburn and Ripon will go out to public consultation when this
current round is complete.
