Living in the AONB

Nidderdale AONB is not just a fantastic place to visit but is also the home and workplace to 15,000 people.

The economy of the AONB is dominated by agriculture and tourism which together account for over 50% of employment in the area.   Although the countryside in the AONB may seem wild and remote the majority is farmland and in private ownership.

The community in the AONB is one of the things that makes the area special.  However, they face many challenges from lack of affordable housing to increasing pressures on agriculture.  Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty works closely with communities to ensure their vibrant and sustainable future.

Everyone who lives in the AONB can play a part in keeping the area special.  Even small actions contribute to the ongoing care of the area.
