2009-2014 Management Plan Consultation
Part IV of the Countryside and Rights of Way (CRoW) Act 2000
imposes a legal obligation on local authorities to prepare
Management Plans for AONBs and to review them at five yearly
intervals. The legislation gives Natural England, the Government's
advisor on wildlife and the countryside, responsibility for
overseeing the preparation of AONB Management Plans.
The AONB's 2004 - 2009 Plan, approved by the Secretary of
State for Environment in April 2004, will be replaced by a new
version covering the period from April 2009 to March 2014. The new
Plan is being developed by the AONB Team and the Joint Advisory
Committee on behalf of the local authorities.
The Joint Advisory Committee has set up a sub committee called
the Management Plan Review Working Party to guide the review
process. This will include public consultation on a draft of the
new Plan that is scheduled to take place during winter 2008/09. We
will post details of how you can take part in this consultation on
the website later this year.
The Working Party is chaired by County Councillor Heather
Garnett, with other members drawn from Natural England and officers
from Harrogate District and North Yorkshire County Councils.
The proceedings of the Working Party, and copies of reports on
the review process submitted to the Joint Advisory Committee are
available to download here.
