The AONBs important habitats, including SINCs, require
management to retain their biodiversity
interest. However, SINCs are often small,
isolated and fragmented and landowners are sometimes unaware that
they have a SINC on their land.
To tackle these issues the AONB SINC surveying project was
established in March 2009. The project is led by Marian Wilby (AONB
Farm Conservation Advisor) and supported by a team of volunteer
surveyors. The project aims to:
- Inform landowners and managers about SINCs and their value for
wildlife
- Undertake SINC monitoring surveys to assess condition and draw
up management proposals
- Provide advice on management and assist land managers with
applications for appropriate grant aid
- Create three SINC demonstration sites to highlight practical
management techniques that can be used to retain wildlife
interest.
The data collected from this project will be passed on to the
North Yorkshire Data Centre. For further
information contact Marian
Wilby at the AONB Office.
