Jagged rocks
Sheep in flocks
The dam so long
The brids sing their song
The grass of purples, greens and browns
Lots of different peculiar sounds
Clouds that look like familiar faces
Walkers taking slow paces
Trees reaching to the skies
Annoying midges, annoying flies
Calm seas
Buzzy bees
Distant figure, getting bigger
Lush green grass
Sheep eating as we pass
Hills so steep
In a heap
A different way of looking at things
Narrow bends, that are tight
Shining light
Sun so bright
Blocked from my modern world
As people around me whirled
How I love being near a moor and what a view I saw.

Roisin, age 11

The clouds are like a cotton blanket over the blue skies
The reservoirs are changing dark to light
The walls towering up high
This is what I saw

The sheep on the hill like a king on his throne
The path all rubble and stone
The grass green as emeralds
And a plane shooting by
This is what I saw

The hills reaching up to the sky
An old tin barn rusting a deep golden brown
The trees like pine cones standing up high
Fields in all different shades of green
This is what I saw

Also a brown shed
Water trickling by
Dam as vast as ever
And ducks waddle by
This is what I saw

The wind rushes by
The sound of a waterfall
A quiet area to read

Cameron Phillips, age 10

Scar Bridge
The bridge never stops
Choppy and calm water
Sheep free to roam
Mallards float all day
Water dark and bright
Muddy bank of the river
Lots of trees of pine
Sky, blue and grey
Looks of a castle
Clouds blanketed over you
Birds tweet all day

Joel West, age 10

Weird shapes in the hills
Blocked from the modern world
Pineconed trees waiting for the wind
A bridge that will never end
The noise of the waterfall
Nearly touching the sky
Sheep look like white dots moving around the field
When you walk up it looks like a wall
Rocky paths
Green world
It gives me a tear to my eye
Ducks that will never stop quacking
What a beautiful view

Lewis Parker, age 10

Here on the dam
There are sheep, lambs,
And rams.
Clear blue skies
With planes passing by.
Jagged rocks,
Birds in big flocks.
Water passing through the bridge
Which avoids a big spillage.

Oh... there's lots to see at Scar Dam.

Catherine Greenham, age 10

Bridge going on forever
Water zig zags mindlessly
Ducks float carefree

Pine trees pointy as needles
Sheep as woolly as can be
Hills rolling endlessly

Scar bridge old but still going
So is the river but still flowing
People are walking and knowing that scar bridge is beautiful

Ki-ten, age 10

The Dam
As I walked down the dam
It was old and dirty
There were different colours on the water
At first it was dark and dull
But it changed to light and bright
When I walked it was smelly
I felt scared of heights
There was not much to see
Except the beautiful sights
When I walked further down
There was not much to smell
Other than the fantastic air
I know I will remember
Walking down the dam
Cos to me its like
A never ending road

Natalie, age 10

Tall trees that sway in the wind
With the calm by its side
As the calm water goes in and out the water changes colour
With the mountains by its side
You can see colour on the mountains making animals

As the sheep and lambs graze on the hills you can hear them talking to one another
When the ducks go by you can hear them quack a tune
Walls made of brick and stone

Grass that hides holes for moles
As the insects fly by you can hear their wings flap up and down as they take off.

Kyle Wallace, age 10

Walking down the bridge
Feels as if it never ends
Don't know where to go
Don't know where to hide
As the waters breeze flows through my mind
Walking with my friends
Walking with my teacher
Looking at the water with its fresh new feature
Cold and breezy
Sounds so easy
No it is not
When the noise gets you caught

Amy Noble, age 11

I can see the zig zag shapes moving across the water
And you can feel the breeze in your face as you move across the dam
The bricks are old and slimy as you touch them with your hand
The quiet noise gets louder as you stop walking
The bridge gets narrower as you get further away
You can see the reflection of your face as you look down into the blue water
But be careful because if you fall down you may die

The water under the dam is cold and blue
But don't jump in
Or that's the end of you

Jay, age 10

Underneath the Bridge
Green, blue, grey, brown
The reservoir is flowing down
Underneath the bridge

On and on and on and on
The bridge goes forever on

Soney, bumpy, ruined old
The castles tale has not been told
Underneath the bridge

On and on and on and on
The bridge goes forever on

Lost, unknown, invisible, wet
The reservoirs pebbles are not found yet
Underneath the bridge

On and on and on and on
The bridge goes forever on

Phoebe, age 11

Seasons
Summer:
I can hear the sound of the birds tweeting
The smell of clean fresh air
I can see the dam glittering in the sunlight

Autumn:
I can hear the almost silent fall of leaves
I can smell the smell of apple pie that mother is baking
I can see the dam even though it is covered with leaves

Winter:
I can hear the sound of the harsh winds
I can smell, well I can smell nothing. There is nothing to smell!
I can see the white snow dam,
A path of joy

Spring:
I can hear the mah of new born lambs
I can smell the sweet smelling flowers
I can see the dam as beautiful as ever

Chloe Marshall, age 11
