Leaders needed for Wildlife Watch Group

Press Release 28th June 2011

Do you like wildlife and enjoy working with children? Have you got two hours a month to spare? If you do we have a wonderful opportunity to become involved in a project aimed at inspiring and enthusing young people about the countryside and wildlife on their doorstep.

Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) are planning to establish a Wildlife Watch group (which is the junior branch of the Wildlife Trust) in Pateley Bridge. The group will meet once a month and will be for young people in the area and their families. Watch groups give children an opportunity to discover local wildlife and get stuck into practical activities such as pond dipping and wildflower fun days.

So what are we looking for in a leader? The most important thing is that you are enthusiastic about wildlife and enjoy working with children. Full training, equipment and support will be provided by the AONB.

And what will you get out of being a leader? A great deal of satisfaction that you are providing children with formative experiences that could give a life long love and passion for nature.

Sarah Kettlewell, AONB Development Officer, said: "At the moment there are no other conservation groups for children in the AONB or the Harrogate area so we are really keen to get this started. However we need the support of local people in order for the group to be a success!"

If you are interested in becoming a leader please contact Sarah Kettlewell at the AONB office on 01423 712950. We will be organising a meeting shortly to bring together potential leaders and a representative from the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust. We look forward to hearing from you.
