Nidderdale Conservation Volunteers
Dry Stone Walling Group
Tree Wardens

The Nidderdale Conservation Volunteers (NCV's) are a friendly group who enjoy being out in the countryside and doing practical conservation work within the Nidderdale AONB.  The activities directly benefit nature conservation and landscape quality, as well as assisting public enjoyment of the countryside.

The programme includes tasks such as footpath repair, pond restoration, woodland management, scrub clearance, fencing, and waymarking in locations throughout the AONB.

The tasks are organised and led by Nidderdale AONB Ranger, Colin Slator, with the agreement of local landowners.  We welcome anyone who wants to "have a go" and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty! No experience is necessary as we provide the tools and training.

Tasks for early 2012
Some of the things we plan to do over the next couple of months include:

  • Scrub control at Galphay
  • Woodland management at Timble and Dacre Banks
  • Conservation grazing at Pateley Bridge
  • Construct an Otter holt at West Leas Farm near Galphay
  • Construct a bog garden and carry out repairs to a vegetable garden at Kell Bank School
  • Dig out a small pond and plant some trees at Heathfield
  • Woodland management and assessment of wildlife area at Bewerley Park

We meet:
Every Tuesday at 9.00am. Full details of each volunteer day are emailed out on a Monday afternoon. We recommend that you contact the AONB office if you intend to come just in case of any planned changes to the programme.
