Veteran Tree Surveys

A friendly group of tree enthusiasts, the Nidderdale AONB Tree Wardens are residents of the AONB and work with their Parishes to promote trees and woodland and help Parish Councillors with issues related to trees.

As well as surveying their own parishes to identify woods and interesting trees, Tree Wardens meet together to plant trees, develop educational materials for schoolchildren, develop 'tree trails' (walks through interesting woodland and locations where timber is put to good use), help to maintain existing woodland, and are establishing a tree nursery.

The AONB provides an ongoing series of free training workshops for Tree Wardens to develop their skills and knowledge on subjects such as woodland management, woodland ecology, tree identification, surveying and propagation.

We're always looking for more people so if you want to know more please email Barry Slaymaker or call the AONB Office on 01423 712950.

Tree Wardens have a Code of Practice (PDF 82KB) that clarifies their role, and a Scheme Charter (PDF 80KB) that outlines the responsibilities of the partner organisations.
