The Agill Research Project

Set up in early 2003, the Agill Research Project aims to carry out a study of the depopulated areas of Agill near Masham.  The group is recording a wide range of archaeological features and piecing together the history of the area.

Several information gathering methods are used: old maps, aerial photographs, interviews with local people, parish records census data, site surveys, field walks and recording buildings and features.

This area is of great historic interest and the group has already made some fascinating discoveries.  Settlements dating from 600 BC onwards have been found indicating that man has lived and shaped the area for thousands of years.
